Introducing: Dr. Heike Wieters

My Name is Heike, I was born in Celle, a small City in Niedersachsen, Germany and have been living in Berlin since high school. After graduating in contemporary history and philosophy at Humboldt-University Berlin in 2008, I have been around quite a bit: traveling, doing research, or on teaching assignments at academic institutions in Beijing, Boston, London, Oslo, New York, Paris, Washington, DC and many other places in Europe, the US, Latin-America and Asia. This international experience is certainly one of the reasons I was immediately hooked when I heard about GLOCAL and its pathway here at Georg August University Göttingen. It brings smart students from all over the world together in Europe. The GLOCAL program is interdisciplinary but deeply rooted in historical research on the challenges of globalizing societies and economies. Students and teachers come from diverse backgrounds, which allows everyone to learn from each other’s academic and professional experiences. The program encourages individual participants to grow personally and academically, in an environment that offers a lot of freedom as well as the need to study intensively, both individually and within teams. Becoming part of GLOCAL certainly means going beyond one’s comfort zone… Now that I have seen the first group of international students arrive here in Göttingen, after repeated changes of cities, academic institutions, and social environments, I am even more convinced that this is an excellent idea…!
